“Experiment Shares” are online meetings for teachers to share their favourite experiments with other teachers. Hosted by Michael Gregory, Hosted by Michael Gregory, Science on Stage France and Scientix Ambassador, experiments have been shared by teachers from Canada, Greece, Italy, Romania, Serbia, Germany, Ireland, UK, Brasil, USA, France, Portugal, Bulgaria, Albania and the list continues to grow!
Started in August 2021, these meetings were inspired by a number of cool projects – notably Perimeter Institute’s “Kitchen Wars”, “YES! International” meetings for students, CERN ITW2018 “Virtual Pub” reunions, “Active Science” online workshops, and “My Favourite Experiments” where I’ve been asking teachers around the world to share their favourite experiments with me since 2017.
Experiment Shares are free and all teachers are welcome, so please spread the word! The goal is for teachers to share experiments with each other, so everyone is encouraged to prepare a short demo (1 to 5 minutes) of one of their favourite experiments. But if you’re too shy, busy or short on inspiration, please also feel free to come along just to see what others have to share. In either case, please come ready to ask questions, provide feedback, and eager to try out some of the experiments you see!
Don’t just take my word for it, you can also read about these Experiment Share meetings in the June 2022 issue of Science in School: https://www.scienceinschool.org/article/2022/my-favourite-experiments/
Upcoming Experiment Shares:
Spanish, French & Italian Experiment Shares – coming in 2023!
Following the success of the Spanish-language pilot in December, discussions are in place to finally try Experiment Shares in French and Italian! As there are fewer teachers who speak these languages, it is unlikely that these will happen more than once or twice per year, but it is still worth including some of the great teachers who speak other languages. Please get in touch if you would be interested in attending or presenting in any of these languages, or if you would like help to start similar meetings in other languages. (For the moment I only speak four languages with enough confidence to attempt hosting meetings, but I always eager to join in and support teachers with projects in languages I don’t yet speak if I can be of use.)
